Drawing Squirkles Around a Tree

Drawing Squirkles Around a Tree | Drawing and Painting Tutorials | Scoop.it
Even if you're an expert in botany, you'll have a hard time figuring out what kind of tree this is. The tree in this lesson doesn’t exist; rather it's a figment of my imagination. If you prefer, you can base your drawing on a more realistic tree (from life or a photo). Most beginners to drawing tend to draw only the branches that grow from the sides of the tree, without indicating those that are behind and in front of the trunk. The primary goal of this lesson is to provide learners with a strong sense of the three dimensional qualities of a tree.

How to Draw Caricatures: Head Shapes | Tom's MAD Blog!

How to Draw Caricatures: Head Shapes | Tom's MAD Blog! | Drawing and Painting Tutorials | Scoop.it

"When I first started drawing live caricatures I felt that the eyes were the most important part of the face, and I put a lot of emphasis and focus on them. I still think the eyes are a crucial element, but over the years I’ve come to believe that the head shape is the most important part of a caricature.

I talk endlessly about seeing shapes within the features and the face, and the importance of drawing those shapes accurately to capture likeness and to create a convincing drawing. Again, it’s difficult to teach anyone to “see”… that ability is developed over time via practice and hard work. Still, there are a few techniques and tricks I have learned that can help artists to better see what is in front of them, and better interpret it in their drawing."

Interesting Content's insight:

Ever wondered how to draw caricatures? If so, this tutorial will tell you what you need to know about designing caricature characters starting from the head first. If you're thinking of becoming a caricature artist, this is a good place to start.
