Sketching from a Manikin

Sketching from a Manikin | Drawing and Painting Tutorials | Scoop.it
In this heavily illustrated lesson, I show you how to sketch a human figure from a wooden manikin. Manikins are wonderful models; they don't move, require no bathroom breaks, and don't talk your ears off!
Jerome Okutho's insight:

A manikin is a great tool for practicing drawing the human anatomy without the hassle of trying to find someone to pose for you. This tutorial explains how you can use a manikin to sketch the proportions of the human figure.

Human Anatomy Fundamentals: Flexibility and Joint Limitations - Tuts+ Design & Illustration Article

Human Anatomy Fundamentals: Flexibility and Joint Limitations - Tuts+ Design & Illustration Article | Drawing and Painting Tutorials | Scoop.it

"In this last session before we start putting faces on our characters, I'll be introducing flexibility. Flexibility is the ability to stretch a joint to the limit of its range of movement, aka "how joints can and cannot move". This material gathered from my own martial art and flexibility training is not frequently covered in books on drawing the human figure, but it complements the muscles in understanding the body in motion. It's also necessary in order to articulate the body in a natural-looking way, rather than like a wooden manikin with screwed-on limbs!"

Jerome Okutho's insight:

Drawing the human form can be tricky especially when trying to draw someone in a flexible pose. This tutorial attempts to break down the flexible human anatomy into simple shapes and guides you can easily follow when drawing the anatomy. Enjoy!
